25/04/2015 A few photos from home and a couple of shots from when we were away last week.

Maximum temperature 14C, Minimum 0C. 32 km/h NW wind. Ice on the bird bath this morning!

Choisya ternata.

Blue bells.

Canadian maple.

Irises.

Common Lizard.

Red robin.

As above, but the buds and early opening flowers are much pinker,

Tulip.

White-cheeked pintail (Anas bahamensis), not native to France but it is popular in wildfowl collections, escapees are frequently seen in a semi-wild condition in Europe. Seen swimming in the moat at Sauveterre de Rouergue.

What I believe to be a Wood Duck (Aix sponsa) also seen swimming in the moat. Also known as a Carolina duck.

30/05/2015 Bugs and other things!

Maximum temperature 19C, minimum 6C. 18 km/h SW wind. Sprinkling of rain that did not register in the rain gauge. Watered the garden.

19/04/2015 Cooler today and not much wildlife around. A few random shots in the garden.

Maximum temperature 17C, minimum 7C. 51 km/h E wind. A light shower last night that barely registered in the rain gauge.

12/04/2015 Fabulous weather and lots of work done in the garden.

Shadows Along the Zambezi by Diana M. Hawkins

I so enjoyed this book and towards the end I could not put it down only finishing at 2am! Having lived most of my early life in Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe, so many places had a lot of meaning to me. Diana’s knowledge of every detail in this book is incredible.
Sadly, so much of this story is fact and very true. It made me cry and at times it made me smile. I hope that it might awaken the world as to what is going on in many African countries, and instead of so many people burying their heads in the sand, perhaps they might stand up and do something. Smuggling and hunting are very soon going to leave the world a very sad place when there are no animals left.
Now I am off to read Shadows over an African Heart.

Shadows Over an African Heart: a novel by Diana M. Hawkins

Shadows over an African Heart is the perfect name for this book. The shadows are even bigger than I ever dreamt, and this book is a real eye-opener to the truth of what is going on. I was in tears in many places in this book. The fictional side story I so enjoyed, but the true and very sad story of the elephants and other animals; the Zimbabwe government has so much to answer for.
The world needs to read both of Diana’s books and action needs to be taken before the children of today never see wildlife as we have had the joy to grow up with around us.
There are many African words in the story which to me were great to be reminded of, but many are explained as you read and there is a good glossary of the words in the back of the book.
